What are some other quick dinner ideas for work?
Don’t worry we ain’t just gonna talk about sandwiches and wraps. You can get your lunch from a can or a package. I know, I know! Don’t freak out. I’m only going to mention a couple.
Ravioli – these are pretty good heated or yes, just straight from the can
Smoked sausage – I don’t know about you but when I open up a pack of smoked sausage and slice it for cooking I always end up eating a few pieces. So does my little dog, Roxy. We both love it cold.
Jerky – they make a kinds of flavors of jerky so if you like this sort of thing then it would be a great addition to a sandwich or salad.
Speaking of salads. This is another lunch you can have at work that doesn’t take a microwave.

Let’s make some salads
I’m sure I haven’t… scratch that. I know I haven’t listed every single thing you can put in a salad. One way to get some ideas is simply by visiting some restaurant menus to see what they have put in theirs.
Like you will find the Antipasta Salad which has all kinds of stuff in it. I kid you not I get mine from a small restaurant called Giovanni’s and I can eat the thing without dressing! It has lettuce, ham, pepperoni, banana peppers, carrots, bacon, mushrooms, olives, green peppers, red onions, tomatoes and provolone cheese. I also ask them to hold the olives, tomatoes, and mushrooms. I don’t live olives and mushrooms. As far as tomatoes go, I don’t trust them in a restaurant. I’ve gotten ahold of bad ones too many times and it ruins the whole salad.
McDonald’s has some pretty good salads you could copycat. One of my favorite is the Southwest salad. It has a mixture of greens with romaine, baby kale, and baby spinach. Then they add corn, black beans, tomatoes, and peppers. The salad is topped with cilantro, shredded cheese, slice of lime and what I think makes the tastes is the corn chips. This also comes with chunks of either grilled or crispy chicken but I often it without it and it still tastes great. Eat this with southwest dressing or any dressing of your choice.
Wendy’s is another place that has some pretty good salads. Let’s take a look at the Summer Strawberry Salad. This one has romaine lettuce, spring mix, shredded cheeses, strawberries, chicken breast, almonds, applewood smoked bacon, and topped with vinaigrette.
One of my favorites that I make when we have taco night and with leftover taco meat is what I call the Dorito Taco Salad. In this salad there is lettuce, taco meat, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, sliced avocado, shredded cheese, crushed Doritos, Catalina dressing.
You can also create salads out of sandwich just by leaving off the bread.
For instance, when we have hamburgers in our house I will fix myself a salad with the stuff I put on my cheeseburger. So, I tear up some lettuce, chop up my tomato and onion, then crumble up my hamburger. I will top it with shredded cheese and dressing. Sometimes I used Ranch and sometimes Catalina or French. Whatever I have on hand.
You can even keep it as basic as mixing together spinach, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese, and dressing of choice. Now this sounds fresh.
The various ways of making salads are endless. And you can find all kinds of ideas on the internet and at restaurant sites.
Heck, if you wanted to and dug around enough I’m sure you could come up with thirty different salads and have one a day during the month. Then repeat the next month. Hhmmmm this just may be an idea.
If you have leftover chicken or hamburger just turn that into a salad for lunch the next day.
Speaking of leftovers, let’s talk about a few of them.
Leftovers that don’t have to be reheated
We can’t forget about leftovers. Leftovers that don’t have to be microwaved and still taste just fine will be one of the absolute easiest ways to make your lunch.
Here are just a few you can keep in mind:
- Roasted chicken – tortilla or salad
- Pasta with raw vegetables
- Fried chicken
Do you know of any quick lunch ideas that don’t have to be microwaved?
Oh, by the way, if you need some containers that work real well for keep your food you can grab these containers over at Amazon. I use these and like them really well.
